Please let me introduce myself.

Hi! I’m Terry Kuenzli, the owner and president of Terry Kuenzli Enterprises. I know; you’re now asking, “How the heck does he pronounce his last name?” It’s really easy! If you make the “u” silent, as my ancestors did when reaching the U.S., it’s “Kensley”. I’ve always said, “If you can pronounce my last name, you can’t spell it, and if you can spell it, you can’t pronounce it.” Now on to my company’s story and your interest in my signs.

I moved to Sandpoint 4 years ago, and soon realized that a rural town with less than 8,000 residents spread all over was not conducive to easily finding someone’s address. As usual, the addresses in town weren’t too hard, but the rest of the county was a work of art! In most cases the addresses were on the mailboxes, and I make use of this same method. But, the mailboxes might be on the same side of the street, or across, near the driveway, or not. I’m sure you follow.

Now, when you throw in the variable of time zones, it gets even crazier! Sandpoint is located in the Pacific Time Zone but less than 40 miles from the Mountain Time Zone. So, in the winter, Sandpoint’s getting dark by 4:00 P.M., and it’s not going to be light enough for easy address searching until 7:00 A.M.. (I’ll pass on discussing the winter snow covering any thought of painting addresses on curbs.) To add things up, you have a community that has dark winters, confusing mailboxes, hidden dirt driveways, and landmarks only the neighbors know.

I figured there must be an easy solution. So, like you, I headed for the web.
